In India, Carpets can have many different types of patterns and motifs used to decorate the surface. Carpets are used in industrial and commercial establishments such as retail stores and hotels and in private homes. Today, a huge range of carpets and rugs are available at many price and quality levels, ranging from inexpensive, synthetic carpets that are mass-produced in factories and used in commercial buildings to costly hand-knotted wool rugs that are used in private homes. It has both inside and outside market potential. Carpets can be made on a loom quite similarly to woven fabric, made using needle felts, knotted by hand, made with their pile injected into a backing material, flatwoven, made by hooking wool or cotton through the meshes of a sturdy fabric, or embroidered.

A carpet is a textile floor covering typically consisting of an upper layer of pile attached to a backing. The pile usually consists of twisted tufts that are typically heat-treated to maintain their structure. The term carpet is often used in a similar context to the term rug, but rugs are typically considered to be smaller than a room and not attached to the floor. Carpets are used for a variety of purposes, including insulating a person's feet from a cold tile or concrete floor, making a room more comfortable as a place to sit on the floor, reducing sound from, and adding decoration or color to a room.

The global carpet market was at INR 4620 billion in 2020 and is determined to reach INR 5515 billion by 2025, progressing at a CAGR of 4.6% from 2020 to 2025. Carpets are often used to cover decorative floors. They are mainly produced from various raw materials, including nylon, polyester, cotton, jute, polypropylene, and other raw materials. Previous rugs were mainly used in commercial sectors. Recently, the demand for rugs is also increasing at a rapid rate in residential areas. The carpet industry has undergone a radical change in recent years: Optimal prices, fast delivery, and high quality have driven the world market. The technological intervention supported by sustainability will be the main driver of growth opportunities in the highly competitive carpet market. Durability, softness, stain and pet resistance attributes have become basic prerequisite for carpets. Adoption of new technologies and innovations have resulted in significant improvement in carpet performance while providing elegant patterns and color options to help keeping carpet industry on the forefront of design. Innovations in fabrics such as introduction of nylon featuring cationic technology which reduces the number of dye sites in the fiber and aids in stain resistibility has significantly increased the overall demand of carpets. In addition, 100% solution-dyed PET fiber aids in reduction of shedding and stands up to foot traffic over time. Furthermore, invention of 6 nylon fiber material have resulted in strength, resiliency, colorfastness, abrasion resistance, cleanability soil resistance, and dyeing flexibility of carpets. Collaboration with Magic Fresh technology which aids in neutralizing common household odors has provided a competitive edge for carpet manufactures. As a result advancement in carpet fibers is expected to propel the overall carpet market growth.
