A grape is a fruit, botanically a berry, of the deciduous woody vines of the flowering plant genus Vitis. Grapes can be eaten fresh as table grapes or they can be used for making wine, jam, grape juice, jelly, grape seed extract, raisins, vinegar, and grape seed oil. Grapes are a non-climacteric type of fruit, generally occurring in clusters. The grape is the most important crop grown in the world. Mostly it grown for making wines and preparation of raisin and then as a table fresh fruit. While in India, it is mainly grown for table use. Grape cultivation is believed to have originated near Caspian Sea. however, Indians know grapes since Roman times. Total area under grapes in India is about 40,000 ha, distributed mainly in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Grape is considered as a sophisticated fruit from the very old times. It is cherished as fresh fruit, stored as raising, drinks as wines and medicines from the time immemorial. During the ancient times grape were cultivated in European countries mainly for making wines. The present world production of grape is equally shared for fresh consumption and processing. The grapes are grown for various purposes. Generally, the grapes are classified into the following five groups depending on their use: table grapes, raisin grapes, wine grapes, juice grapes and canning grapes. There is good scope for grape cultivation due to its uses. It is a very good project. So new entrepreneurs may enter in this field.

The grapes market was valued at INR 14,0800 Crores in 2020, and the market is projected to register a CAGR of 7.1% during the forecast period, 2021-2026. The year 2020 was not very beneficial for grape producers and exporters. Most of the shipments got stuck, and the majority of the consignments were on hold globally. The delayed harvesting affected the quality of the grapes, thereby affecting the demand. Lockdowns, labor shortage, and the depleting demand for grapes abroad were some of the major concerns for producers. Because grapes are often consumed as a snack and as a product of indulgence, you must consider consumer experience as an important success factor for your product. Especially when dealing with experienced buyers, who appreciate premium quality, you can distinguish yourself with superior quality and taste. For example, there is a growing niche for highly aromatic varieties such as the Sable Seedless or Cotton Candy. Specific preferences can differ per region and buyer. Most importantly, besides offering seedless grapes, your product must be fresh, sweet and crisp. Driven by increasing demand for grape worldwide, the market is expected to continue an upward consumption trend over the next seven-year period. Market performance is forecast to retain its current trend pattern, expanding with an anticipated CAGR of +1.3% for the seven-year period from 2018 to 2025, which is projected to bring the market volume to 83M tones by the end of 2025.
