Papad is nothing but the thin Indian wafer,which can be refereed as acracker or flat bread .Papad is generally made from dried pulses;it can be eaten fried or roasted.There are varieties of papad flavors available in the market,that are made to suit the requirement ofeach and every individual ."PAPAD" is often served as an appetizer; it is consumed in all parts of India and abroad. Papad making business is often associated with empowerment of women in India, and is also one of the many cottage industries of India.In India, papad market is approximately Rs 1,000 crore . Papad market has always been steadily growing across the country. But in recent years, it is found that the market is growing especially abroad as people outside India have started consuming Indian food. Not only papad industry, but also Indian restaurants across the world are getting benefit of it as papad is a very versatile food product and is used in a lot of recipes for its crunchiness. Different type of papads avalable inthe country which includes Bikaner Papad, Surti Papad, Chili Garlic Papad, Appalam Papad, etc. The papad is widely accepted in all part of the country irrespective of age group.Many small scale manufacturers are engaged in production of papad. There are both branded and in branded varieties.

Papad manufacturing business is profitable as it is a food item consumed by all age groups and consumed in all seasons. Papads have been a part of the cuisine of the Indian subcontinent for generations and are an intrinsic part of everyday meals.There is scope for using machine for rolling papad. Innovative methods like solar drying will help to increase production. Attractive packaging will help to sell in upmarket areas. If regular supply of good quality urad dal is arranged, manufacture of papad can be planned on a large scale to bring down cost. It is better to concentrate on export rather than domestic market as there are already too many players in India competing for a share in the limited profit.
